- A Daily Blog

I am loving the Clean and Simple Challenges at Split Coast Stampers. This particular challenge asked us to be inspired by a Vera Bradley purse. I chose this set of bags. They are so colorful and fun!

I dug into my stash. The patterned paper and the card base cardstock were in a clearance pack at Hobby Lobby. The Stickers were from a Summer Set on a Roll from the Dollar Section at Target. The frames I've had for a long time - I think I received them in a swap.

I made two thank you cards, a get well card and a hello card. They were very quick!

PROJECT DETAILS

Flower Stickers: Target
Letter Stickers: Stickabilities, Karen Foster, Making Memories, My Little Shoebox
Paper: My Mind's Eye Kaleidoscope
Cardstock: Lightweight from Hobby Lobby
Frames: Oriental Trading Company (guessing here)
Black Pen: American Crafts

I am still working on Soldier cards. I was inspired by the Clean and Simple Challenge at Split Coast Stampers. I had done some sponging the other day, and thought I would try it again.

PROJECT DETAILS

I stamped on white cardstock. I laid my pre-cut stamped star down and sponged Holiday Red ink all around it. I then matted everything and I had a Clean and Simple Card.

Ink: CTMH
Stamps: Stampabilities
Paper: CTMH
Card Base: Hobby Lobby

I created this card for the Limited Supplies challenge at Split Coast Stampers. The card is an eight inch square, folded in half. That's a big card!

I had stamped and colored a star image and decided the reds were just not right. I then thought of my CTMH White Daisy ink and used my stamped image as a mask.

PROJECT DETAILS

Stickers - Stickabilities and American Crafts
Buttons - Collected over the years
Background Paper and Cardstock - CTMH
Ink - White Daisy
Star Stamp - Stampabilities

I found a great treasure today, a technique challenge at the Split Coast Stampers.

I have been working on cards for soldiers, so I stayed with my patriotic theme.

PROJECT DETAILS

Here is the link to try this for yourself. The instructions were great!

I used two stamps, the star was Stampabilities, and the Soldier is from Paper Inspirations. I used CTMH Cardstock and Background Paper, along with some star brads, also CTMH. Ink - Brown Paper Bag from CTMH.

The ovals are Spellbinders Petite Ovals, the largest two.

Today is the day I like to work with words. Sometimes I use a quote, or lyrics or a poem, and sometimes I'm simply inspired by something I've read.

I found this wooden star on clearance after Christmas, and it was too cute to pass up.

I was inspired by a friend of mine who has a little boy who likes to hear the Stars So Bright song when I visit. He is referring to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. I've made this for his room, which is decorated in vintage Americana, including stars.

PROJECT DETAILS

The wooden star is from Hobby Lobby. I removed all the pieces and painted the edges and the inner circle with Dusk paint by Making Memories. After the star was dry, I applied paper from American Traditional Design's Road Trip kit, and sanded off any excess.

I wiped the star clean, and added some doodles along the edge, and rubbed a little Brown Paper Bag ink (CTMH) to distress the star slightly. I finished it off with EK Scrabble Tiles.

I love Basic Grey papers. I love the colors, the patterns, and the unique looks. I admit to having a rather large stash of these papers, stickers, and embellishments.

I like to take time each week to create cards. I made two of these, and left the sentiment off, so I can add the appropriate saying when I need a quick card.

Sometimes, I'm feeling creative, and other times, it's hard work. I know I can always turn to my die cuts and create a cute little character or accent, and then build from there.

This card is versatile. It could be a lil guy's birthday card, or a "feelin' froggy" get well card, or even "jumping for joy" celebration type card. Keep ready made cards on hand, and keep it handmade, and you'll always be prepared for the celebrations, salutations, and needs of friends and family.

PROJECT DETAILS

I die cut the frog and grass using QuicKutz Dies. The frog was done with two separate shades of green, and all the pieces were inked and distressed afterwards. I placed a piece of dimensional foam under the top portion of the frog, to give him a little depth. Overall, this project was extremely simple, but I like the results.

I dug into my collection of Dollar Crafts. These are small kits and projects that I purchased for a dollar or less.

This particular kit was a Red Toile Frame Kit from Hobby Lobby. After the holidays, the scrapbooking kits and supplies go down to as much as 90% off. This particular kit was originally priced $9.99. So, I got there just in time, and purchased it for only .99 cents.

This thick chipboard frame came with a selection of papers, stickers and rub ons and a small sheet of sand paper. There was no acetate to protect a photo, so I decided just to make a holiday greeting.

PROJECT DETAILS

I painted the top of the frame, and the edges (interior and exterior) with Red Roses Acrylic Paint from Making Memories. I applied this with a section of a Hydra Sponge. Once the paint was dry, I gently scrubbed the edges with the sandpaper from the kit, exposing some of the chipboard, and even tearing it in places. I then took another section of a Hydra Sponge and rubbed Chocolate Ink (CTMH) all over it, especially in the exposed areas. The paint and ink made the chipboard look just like some aged wood. Because I used the ink, I heat set the project before adding the papers to the back. I also added rub ons and one of the included embellishments - a tag title with brads.

When I reorganized my crafting space, I made several piles - donate, keep, etc. One of the baskets I created was a "Stash" - small projects that I picked up on sale or received from a friends. I also gather up odds and ends from completed projects. Once a week, I challenge myself to create from my "Stash" basket. Maybe you will want to join me as well. If you share your project to me, I can display it during my weekly Scrap My Stash Challenge, or feature a link to your blog or gallery.

For today's Scrap My Stash Challenge, I decided to create a Perpetual Planner. I checked my stash and found a Lucky Matchbook Kit from Basic Grey.

This fold out die cut project had enough pages for each month of the year, so it's perfect for my Perpetual Planner. I use my Perpetual Planner as a reminder of those projects I must tackle every year. Many activities occur annually, like yard care, homeowner's dues, taxes, changing the filters, and so much more.

If I don't have a system, I'm not able to stay organized. I am hoping that having this cute little book in a basket on my desk might help me stay organized in 2010. I plan to add projects as I tackle them throughout the year, so the following year, I'll have a better idea of when I need to begin preparing for upcoming events, expenses, projects, etc.

PROJECT DETAILS

I made a slight change to the design. The book was meant to be held together by brads, but I thought ribbon was much cuter. I distressed the edges and doodled, and sanded off all the little nubs that occurred when I punched out the pieces. I added some buttons and ribbon, and my simple Scrap My Stash Challenge project was complete.

From start to finish, it was about 45 minutes. I like to watch the program Glee, and I was able to finish it while watching. Additional supplies I used: Chocolate Ink (Close To My Heart), Zig Millenium Pen, Foam Dots and Adhesive Tape, and some ribbon and buttons.

I've been enjoying blogs for many years, and I've finally decided to start my own, with a little encouragement from all the talented bloggers out there. I have a little more time on my hands these days, and a greater need to use what I've got. I'll share my daily crafting, and include my handmade creations, along with tips and ideas that I've picked up along the way. I love to make little embellishments and card candy pieces, and hope to share them with some of you each week.

Every day, I try to set aside a minimum of one hour to create, and also take some time to research - read blogs, take challenges, enter contests. While I challenge myself to something different for each day of the week I hope that you'll find some inspiration, and some desire to use what you have. Please do comment, I'll pick a random reader each week for a special handmade gift.

If you would like to contact me, please send an e-mail to gracefulsimplicity@gmail.com. I will do my best to try and answer any questions.

PROJECT DETAILS

Quotabilities. I love, love, love quotes, song lyrics, poems, and I'm putting together a book of them. I'll feature a great quote, and the journal page I've put together for it.
Treasure Hunt. There are so many wonderful blogs and challenges out there. I'll find a few and post them, and then decide on one to try.
Technique Twist. I like to try something new, or practice a technique I've created or learned about. I like to make handmade papers and embellishments, but it's not done til you create your own spin on these techniques.
Wild Cards. You never know what I might come up with - it could be any of the projects I do throughout the week, or something completely different. Whatever it is, I hope it will be lots of fun.
Scrap My Stash. I like to create from only my Stash Basket, gifts that I've received, kits I've put together with remnants, odds and ends - to create something new with no added expense.
Dollar Craft Fun. I over-shopped for a long time, but I loved finding dollar items and so I'll be using kits and projects that were purchased for less than one dollar.
Die Cut Fun. Let's get inspired by die cuts - QuicKutz, Sizzix, BossKut, Cricut, and ready made die cuts. I'll embellish them and use them on cards, altered items, and more.
